Student Profile and Program of Study

Student Profile

Is Landmark East the right school for your child?

Landmark East School’s success in helping students unlock their full potential is based on the following criteria:

  • They have a diagnosed learning difference (including but not limited to Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, ASD, or general learning disability)

  • They may have difficulty acquiring literacy (reading and spelling) skills

  • They have difficulty with written expression, mathematics, processing information, organization and/or study skills

  • They have average to above-average cognitive capacity

  • They are motivated to participate in the school’s programs and show evidence that they understand their learning difference

  • Their parents support the policies and guidelines set out by Landmark East School

Landmark East School may not be suitable for all students who learn differently. Although each application is assessed individually to determine whether Landmark East School is able to provide the student with an appropriate individualized program, students with the following learning profiles are likely better served by other schools or programs that have the expertise to meet their specific needs:

  • Intellectual disabilities

  • Emotional and/or behavioural disorders

  • Students with behaviour challenges related to anger and aggression

  • Students with a history of physical violence

  • Non-verbal

  • Students who require ESL

Program of Study

Landmark East School offers a three-tiered program of study depending on the individual student’s needs; this is determined with recommendations from the Admissions team. The difference between programs is the group size of one daily 45-minute Intensive Support (Learning Strategies for High School) class where the focus of support is on the individual learner profile.

  • Program of Study 3: This program of study includes one 45-minute period of daily intensive literacy, numeracy, and organizational instruction and support with an average class size of 4 students.

  • Program of Study 2: This program of study includes one 45-minute period of daily intensive literacy, numeracy, and organizational instruction and support with a maximum class size of 2 students.

Program of Study 1: This program of study has a 1:1 45-minute period of daily intensive literacy, numeracy, and organizational instruction and support.
