Landmark East develops individualized academic programs that address both the strengths and weaknesses of the student. To learn, a student must first understand and then practice applying newly acquired knowledge. The school offers this opportunity by coordinating the curriculum and the skills being taught to the student.
Skills are practiced and reinforced across subject areas. The student is moved from teacher-guided learning toward independence and self-ownership. |
Academic teachers are coordinated in this approach by educational consultants who monitor the student's program and progress with each of their teachers. Once foundation skills are mastered and independence developed, future academic success is possible.
Landmark East is committed to maintaining a small student/teacher ratio of 3:1 with class sizes ranging from 4 to 9 students in the Middle and High School programs. Tutorials are mandatory in the Middle School program and optional in the High School program.
Students and their parents need to actively participate in the development and achievement of goals. Goals are both short and long term and will vary according to the student’s age and self-awareness. Such goal setting lays the foundation for the student’s future education.
Landmark East School admits qualified students of any race, gender, religion and national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities at the school. It does not discriminate in the administration of its educational policies, admissions, financial aid, athletics and other school-administered programs and services. This policy is in accordance with the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act.
