An individualized program is developed for students at Landmark East by determining their current academic skill levels. Skills and information are then be presented in small increments that are practiced and reviewed until the material becomes automatic. The multi-sensory approach incorporates visual, auditory and tactile-kinesthetic learning channels.
Students participate in the following Middle School Program academic classes:
Language Tutorial
A daily one-on-one language tutorial addresses a student’s specific language needs in oral reading, spelling, oral and written expression and comprehension.
Auditory Processing
In the auditory processing class, students are taught to determine the linguistic elements within words (sound-symbol relationships) and to interpret orally presented language.
Language Arts
The language arts class focuses on a student’s composition skills including sentence and paragraph structure, punctuation and grammar, as well as literature evaluation and study skills.
Mathematics
The mathematics class teaches a student a progression of basic skills from counting and place value concepts through to decimals, percents and algebra concepts. Emphasis is placed on their knowledge of fundamental computations.
Social Studies & Science
These study skills classes focus on a student’s basic skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing, as well as on using resources, answering questions, studying and test writing.
